Long Time No See!
Hi everyone, this is Kiyoshi from Interwao!
Summer is finally behind us and the cooler autumn breeze is slowly making its way in—how’s everyone doing these days?
This time, I’d love to share a little recap of our annual Mizonokuchi House Party, which we hold around the same time as the Tamagawa Fireworks Festival every year!
For the past two years, the fireworks did go on… but unfortunately, both years were met with rain.
So this year, I was checking the weather every single day for a whole week leading up to the event, crossing my fingers for clear skies.
And when the big day came…
Yep. It rained again….
Well, to be fair, it was more of an off-and-on drizzle. Everyone was a little anxious, wondering if the fireworks would actually happen. But we decided to believe in good vibes and go ahead with our house party preparations.
Luckily, everyone at the house pitched in with the prep, and you could really feel the shared hope that the skies would clear.
And guess what—they did! The rain stopped just in time and the fireworks started!
Every year, we open up the rooftop at Mizonokuchi-b, and let me tell you—it’s basically the VIP section for fireworks viewing.
It’s hard to capture in photos, but the view of the fireworks bursting over the Tamagawa River was just incredible.
There were still a few clouds in the sky, but honestly, this was the clearest view we’ve had in three years!
As the fireworks lit up the night, everyone chatted and laughed together—it was such a nice moment.
Once the fireworks wrapped up, it was time for dinner!
Before we knew it, the living room was packed with people. We kicked things off with a big Kanpai (cheers)!
This was a joint event between Mizonokuchi-a and Mizonokuchi-b, and even though some people had just met for the first time, everyone was chatting and getting along like old friends. The vibe was so chill and welcoming!
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Mizonokuchi-b event without our legendary billiards tournament!
Things were getting intense—people were seriously focused. (We could practically see the gears turning in their heads! )
Outside, we also fired up the BBQ!
With the cooler autumn air, honestly, it felt like peak BBQ season.
Eating together with a big group like this just makes everything taste better and feel more fun!
Some of our newer residents joined their first house event this time too, and it was so heartwarming to see them immediately become part of the group.
It really speaks to how friendly and welcoming everyone is here.
Seeing that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside—and honestly, it reminded me why we do these events in the first place. (Yes, I know… I sound like a proud parent )
And then… surprise!
We celebrated the birthday of one of our residents!7
Not just with any cake—it was a homemade cheesecake, crafted with love by another housemate who knew it was the birthday person’s favorite.
So sweet, right? (Literally.)
They looked super happy, and honestly… same.
Apparently, if your birthday lands while living here, these little perks might just come your way… Lucky!
Here’s a shot of the Mizonokuchi-a crew!
And last but not least… everyone together!
Nearly 40 people joined in, and it was a huge success. I’m honestly just relieved and happy it all went so well.
Events like this really are the best.
And with Halloween and Christmas just around the corner, we’re already planning for more!
By the way, both First House Mizonokuchi 100+a and First House Mizonokuchi 100+b have around 60% international residents!
So whether you’re looking to make international friends or practice your English (or Japanese!), this is a great place to be.
For those living in Japan for the first time, it’s comforting to have people around to help when needed.
It really adds a sense of safety and community.
The house itself is located about 13 minutes on foot from both Tokyu Mizonokuchi Station and JR Musashi-Mizonokuchi Station.
From there, you can get to Shibuya in about 15 minutes on the Den-en-toshi Line, and Musashi-Kosugi in just 8 minutes via the JR Nanbu Line. Super convenient!
If you’re interested in a viewing, have questions, or just want to chat—feel free to reach out anytime!
(This place is pretty popular, so we recommend contacting us sooner rather than later!)
That’s all for now—see you again soon!
